BSNL DataOne BB introduces two new schemes
Two new plans have been introduced by BSNL India.
Home 500 C and Home 500 C+
These plans include phone rental. Earlier the rental-free plan was only with 900 UL.
Difference of both plans is in data transfer, ie. Combo 500 [1.5 GB limit] is meant for low internet usage people whereas Combo 500 + [2.5 GB limit] is meant for comparatively high internet using people with minimal usage of calls.

I think they're having some problems with the data usage management.. it doesn't work now.
What is "256Kbps / Up to 2 Mbps"? Does it mean we can choose the bandwidth offered within in this range?

It means you'd get a minimum of 256kbps upto a max of 2mbps (where technically feasible).
E.g: If your house is more than 4-5 kms from the telephone exchange, you may not get the full 2mbps. But they see to it that you get th minimum of 256kbps.
hello guys, i approched the bsnl and asked for plan change to 500 C. but they guys refused to do so, and said it was only for new customers. is it true? or are these guys bluffing around.

My house is approx 2 Kms from the exchange .. My download speeds usually reaches 180-250 KB/s ( > 1.4 Mbps ) for torrents and accelerated downloads and 50-80 KB/s for normal unaccelerated downloads
Think Dj, u need to be good in Maths first.
180 KB/s is not > 1.4 Mbps.
It should be 0.18 Mbps 🙂

ISPs advertise in Mbps and Kbps .. which stands for Megabits/s and Kilobits/s as they refer to the no of BITS transmitted/s through a communication channel..
But when it comes to the OS level, the standard is in MegaBytes/s or KiloBytes/s ( note the diff b/w "kbps & KB/s" and "Mbps and MB/s" )
They are entirely different 🙂 While ISPs advertise in baud rate (bits/s) we use Bytes/s ( divide the bitrate by a factor of 8 as 8 bits make up a byte )
and so, 180 KB/s = 180*1024 Bytes/s = 180*1024*8 bits/s and hence > 1.4 Mbps
PS : I suck at math anyways 😉

my house is around 4 kms from the exchange and i am getting more than 2Mbps speed. When i checked at various speed test sites, it scored 2.7 Mbps download speed. I would like to know how much my consolidated charge constitutes of my free usage?

Can you access your account now ? In my area, they upgraded the hardware in the exchange for IPtv and gave me a new login data.bsnl.in.. Where do you access it from ? I cannot access mine for about a month now ..

i gave d application for shifting scheme from 900 unlimited to 1800 home scheme last month.they said new scheme wld be activated from jan1.but from jan1 i dont find any difference in my download speed.i checked my bandwidth speed.it says 231kb/s.but according to 1800 rs scheme my minimum bandwidth should be 512 kb/s.does it mean am still in my old scheme.because am now downloading only after 2am fearing a mammoth bill.i called bsnl office.they have no clue as usual.they give me customer care no.but it is never answered.can any 1 help?

My friend faced a similar problem.. He used the net like the new plan had been implemented but when the bill came, it was a staggering 18,000 Rs !!!! Anyways, he had records that he had asked for a plan change request and didn't have to pay it.
1800 Plan goes upto 2 Mbps.. try the test at BSNL's Calcutta site

If your result is 1.x Mbps, your scheme has been upgraded and you have nothing to worry about.

Yes, you are right.. It looks like your plan has not been upgraded.
If you had the 1800 plan, the speed must have been in the 1 Mbps range.
In continuation to my earlier question as I have intimated that I am in basic one india plan by paying Rs.180/- fixed monthly charages.

Everything you do once you are logged on constitutes towards usage. Voice Chat is no exception. However, it is not calculated as such and there is no separate charge for it either.
On a rough estimate, it would take, say, 3 MB for 10 mins of voice chat.
[ I am not that sure, but that is a good approximation; Somebody clarify if I'm wrong ]
So, the data transfer will be added towards account usage.
Regarding the data usage check, many BSNL users are in a fix (atleast the ones whose exchanges upgraded the hardware). We were give a Portal username and p/w. (http://data.basnl.com) When we log onto the portal, there exists a blank frame and nothing more.

login and click consolidated usage, in that u can see how much u transferred and the charge. From the charge shown 1200 will be discounted for 500C customers. For 500C+ calculate urself!!!
Sometimes their server will be down. At that moment you cann't. But u may use third party software like bitmeter whihc is a freeware to know ur bandwidth usage realtime.
Yahoo voice chat will take approximately 90Kbps bandwidth means 1MB for 91 seconds. And under 500c+ you have 2500MB during 8am to 2am nxt day. If u don't have much usage take 500C plan. thats profitable or take home 500 with extra telephone tariff plan like 'special plan'. This home500C+ is not gud for people making around 450 calls and less STD.
With 500c u will get 175 calls free instead of 50 in 500c+.
Moreover u have unlimited transfer during 2am to 8am.

b.no xtra security deposit required
c.when u r in 500C, u don't need to pay the 300rs monthly rental for the landline. And u will get 175 calls, mind tat not 175rs worth calls. Then u hav ur tariff of oneindia plan.
Also ur monthly download limit in 8am to 2am will be 1.5GB instead of 2GB
And chk whether the 5000 rs advance payment may cause any prob.

It's 2Mbps. But if your house is very far from the exchange, the max speed cannot be attained due to drawbacks of ADSL technology. But you'll get a minimum of 256 kbps.. So, you'll get 256kbps – 2Mbps depending on feasibility

it will cost u rupees 500 as monthly rentals.. and for the modem u either have to take any one of the modems are which are there on stock for sale.. they are(TYPE1 MODEM-1200/-,TYPE2 MODEM-1600/-,TYPE3 MODEM-1800/-).But if u r taking the modem on rent then ur rent for type 1 modem will be 60/- rupees monthly.. so ur monthly charges in tht case will be 560/-.. u will have to pay an initial deposit of 500/-(refundable).also 100/- rupees as registratio fees and 250 rupees as installation charges… as given in site's installation and other charges link.

With Moderate surfing for 5-6 hrs/day, you could stick on to your limit. Be sure no other programs are eating up your bandwidth.. Spywares, malware and processes running in the background could account towards unwanted data transfer .. Install a good firewall and keep your system clean of spyware.. Also, limit high bandwidth-consuming services like watching a lot of YouTube videos or Video chatting .. they can eat up a lot of bandwidth.. If you are cautious enough, you could adhere with your data limit.

that is real bad news.. Were you provided with a customer support / engineer's number? Contact them and report it asap and tell that you had specified Home 500.
You could also use Home250 for a month and request for a change of scheme from next month [which should be done now]

It depends on what kind of a surfer you are.. If you think you can keep it within 1.5 GB /month, 500C is ok.. But if you're gonna do more of surfing, go for the 500C+.

Dear friends, I had taken Braodband connection HOME-500 (2.5 GB FREE). At the end of very first day, I consumed 500 MB and that too without downloading anything more than 20 MB. The rest of the usage was on account of web surfing. What's my fault if nowadays the webdesigners are using high quality images for their websites and all that costs us. After 2 days, I visited BSNL Office and asked them to change my plan to HOME-UNLIMITED-900 but they refused to do so, stating that I have committment period of 3 months in the old plan and I will have to stick to the existing plan for 3 months.
Suppose I get HOME-UL-900 PLAN, then will I be able to download even 100 GB of data in a month without paying anything extra? Will I have to pay just Rs. 900/- per month? Internet usage is still highly costly in India. Is there any plan for unlimited download launched by any rival company like TATA or REliance or Connect? If I continued to visit a few heavy websites, I'll go bankrupt very soon.

Sometimes the ACCOUNT USAGE doesn't appear. But if you check your account at 12 midnight, it will appear. The problem that I face is that my username and p/w doesn't work while trying to check my email account. But I don't give a damn, becasue I never utilise any service of any government company/organisation for their inefficiency. Taking broadband from BSNL was my helplessness as I could not avail service of BSNL's rival company (like tata and connect) because they don't provide the service in my area due to non-cable network in my area.
You should write to BSNL's help centre with your queries, or email to any of the officer to redress ur grievance. The list of grievance officers has been uploaded in the bsnl website. Search some links at http://www.bsnl.in.

There is no charge for chatting thru Google talk, but the chatting amounts to output of data and that will add to your download limit. Otherwise google doesn't charge anything.

Search for "Net Activity Diagram" software by using GOOGLE SEARCH ENGINE. Download this freeware software and install the same on your computer. It will keep track of how much u have downloaded and how much u have uploaded.
Sometimes I have felt that this software shows somewhat exagerated data of download/upload. Hence it would be better to check ur ACCOUNT USAGE by visiting the site:

and using ur username and password that has been provided to you by the personnel of BSNL. For more detail, if required, go through this entire blog section that is dedicated to bsnl internet connection. Bye for now.

There was such a problem in most exchanges until last month as there was an upgradation of exchange hardware to accomodate support for VoIP and On demand TV.. Maybe your exchange is in the process of the hardware upgradation, in which case, it is true.

BSNL has changed my plan when I redressed my grievance thru email to the higher authorities. Now my plan is Home-900, and now I am downloading unlimited movies, softwares and songs. Today I have downloaded 800 MB. So I recommend everyone to convert your plans to HOME-900, otherwise even the surfing and checking emails twice a day can consume your 2.5 GB download-limit in a week.

I have check all the tariff plans. Well, there should not be any problem in getting ur plan converted to Home500C because you are not reneging on your committment for a certain period of time, rather you are trying to UPGRADE your plan that will generate more revenue for BSNL. Hence, you MUST write by emails to the higher authorities of bsnl, otherwise the lower level officials will not pay any heed to your request. Mention in your application just as I have told you. Moreover, also enlighten them about the "free conversion at any time" that they have mentioned in their website (under FAQ section). Now it is upto you to fight for your right. You are ready to pay more and that too for the plan that the BSNL has launched, then why the hell they have audacity to decline your request? In my life I have faced various objections from the Govt. officials (even though I am also one of them), but I have alwasy got my every work done by writing to higher authorities. I hope you will send emails to the higher authorities today. Write the subject as "TO WHOM IT MAY CONCERN AT BSNL" so that everyone becomes responsible after receiving ur email.

I applied on the date of april 22,2008 and in the mid(23-04-2008 and 24-04-2008) the order status was future provisioned.I thought that the plan will be changed from the 1st of next month which is (may 1,2008).But now today on (april 25,08) the order status shows provitioned…
Indeed the speed was still 2mpbs and my usage detail is shown in bulk(21000 mb downloaded) witout seperating the night usage between 2a.m-8a.m as for in my previous 500c scheme.Before that my day usage was 1360 mb and night free usage was 19640 mb.
And also for 750UL-plus plan there is no rental for phone so no free calls for me 1.rs/call.
I used my free phone call limit 175 calls from my previous 500c plan..
I am afraid that the calls will be charged and also doubtful about how they bill for me this month.will they exclude all my night usage from the bill. Please help me to keep myself cool.
I changed my BB plan to 500c on 4.4.08 and I was told by the bsnl official that the plan will be calculated from 1.4.08, But only on 21.4.08 service orders shows the new plan and traffic shows 0 in night free usages.I too confused how my bill going to be calculated………..

hey rahul u have switch off and switch on modem at 2.00 to start your free time.. then u have to switch off ur modem b4 8.00..and also check ur pc time wid bsnl server time..

I took a BSNL Home 500 plan on March 11 2008 and gave a request to upgrade the plan to Home 750 Unlimited plan on the last week of April 2008. My biling of March and April 2008 were in accordance to the Home 500 plan.
I was told that the unlimited plan would be effective from May 1 2008 from the next billing cycle .. today when I received the bill for the usage in May .. I saw that I had been charged Rs 7000 (seven thousand) !!! instead of Rs 750 .. My total usage during the month of May was around 7 GB ..
Please tell how to proceed ..

Dear Saurabh, you were wrong to proceed on unlimited usage without confirmation. You should have seen the status of your request by logging onto your usage account. Secondly, you applied in the end of April, 2008 and it is common for any Govt. Office to consume 15 days to take further action. By the way, the BSNL, at most, could charge your usage for the first week of May 2008 as per your previous plan; and could upgrade your plan from the second week of May, 2008.
Anyway, you MUST write to the higher officers (not the officials or small level officer) to ask them to rectify the mistake.
When I opted for 500 Plan, I checked that in 4 days, I had downloaded 800 MP. I immediately applied for upgraded plan, and now i am getting a bill of Rs.750 for unlimited usage.
Write a stong letter to BSNL Officer by SPEED POST only, and also send a copy thereof to the higher officer at their Head Office. I hope that they will surely decrease 50% of your bill. (But if you paid the amount of bill, never expect for any concession because money once paid to Govt. exchequer can't be refunded.

I had checked my portal on May 3rd and it was showing that my plan has been changed to Home 759 Unlimited. I had even confirmed the same from the local BSNL exchange. They told me that my plan has been changed to unlimited and the billing would be effective from May 1st 2008.

750 UL is limited to 256kbps and you shall not receive upto 2Mbps with the 750UL/750UL+ plans.
Also, I am unaware if a method exists by which you can request a plan change online. You may have to go to the main BSNL offics in your area and submit a written request..

You'll have to go to the main office (not your local exchange) with a written request. A change of plan will be done in 1-4 days.

It is normal during day time, but during unlimited(2 to 8) the speed is very less, only around 10 – 15kb/s.
when complained to the area complaint engineer. He is asking me to change the plan from 500 to 750, so that i will be getting uniform speed all the time.
for users with ip address starting with 117, goto http://bbservice.bsnl.in/ then in the 'User ID' space give the portal id and then give password in the password space. this lets you log in and check your broadband usage and change password.

Hai Kavita i'll get alomost 100-256kbps speed even on sundays. (Karnataka- Magalore)
may be there's some prob wid bsnl, but usually u sud not have such prob. i have fine connection (full speed) every day.

Please change your plan from 250 or 500c to 500 combo plus. U'll get 2.5GB free per month and pay only 600+tax. If that problem repeats again and again better get disconnected from BSNL and jump to Airtel but i am usin BSNL and no such problems (But downloading speed is below 256 its too bad and may be depending on servers). I am sorry to tell this but i have to tell no other way –>>> BSNL people were considered as on of the big laziest people in thsi world. I expect hard work from them………….. I applied for 500C plan today. I dont have landline connection also, so I applied for the both. I have laptop in my house. I told them to provide wifi modem. During the submission of application they have taken only Rs. 500 as advance. How about the modem charges? Whether I have to give this amount during installation or it will be included in monthly bill. I opted for purchasing the modem, not the rental. Please give me details whether BSNL people will come and install/connect the modem and check for working of intranet?

Hi, i would like to know if we use the net for more than 5 hrs a day and we dont download anything still will it cross 1.5gb?

Use Bandwidth Reporter Software! It'll report outgoing and incoming bytes.
If u want to avoid transferring bytes but y cannot surf.
To stop transferring bytes
1) Goto Command Prompt (Win+R)
2) Type ipconfig -release
/*Type ipconfig -renew to re-establish the connection */

If you are not intrested to take landfone connection better go for BSNL EVDO connection . But for this also you have to pay I think around 3000 to 4000 but montly the rent will be Rs.250/- and the internet ussage is unlimited. A good plan….. Before you get the connection better you enquire about whether BSNL range is available in your area.
u need to have a land line for tht. or else contact ur loc exchange and see if it provides any special direct lines to home.chances are there if ur area is feasible.

u should then opt for the Dial Up which will have speed around 40kbps only.PAY FOR WHAT YOU USE ONLY IN THIS PLAN.gets charged according to ur call charge,3min pulse-same rates as of calls.

u need to pay for the modem(1200)+security deposit(500 or 1000 depending upon xchange)+service charge of 150.;

No..if u take 500c then u can surf upto 1.5gb a month in day..and night unlimited..night time i get speed around 200KBps max…and average 170KBps..torrent and all…only u have to pay Rs.500 a month..and additional charges if we go beyonf 1.5 gb in day..or make calls more than 175 (175 calls u get free)..

Here Home 500 c+, I find there are 50 free calls .But I understand it 250 calls free.BSNL may up-date the information.
I want to get it confirmed that its 250 free calls and not 50 free calls.. can anyone please confirm that for the new Combo500C+ Plan
