Facebook’s new “Buy with Friends” feature
Facebook is going to launch a new program “Buy with Friends” which will allow people to share purchases and deals with their Facebook friends according to Debra Liu, the Commerce Marketing Manager of FB. She’d announced this at the Inside Social Apps Conference conference.
Probably, this is a move by FB to compete with Deal sites like Groupon and LivingSocial. Last week, there were reports that Google was planning on its own deals site – Google Offers. This news came after the merger talks between Google and Groupon didnt work out. Groupon is already on a massive expansion spree and the world’s largest social networking site doesnt want to be left behind in the ‘deals and coupons’ domain.
In it’s infancy, the “Buy with Friends” feature will be limited to certain in-game purchases and virtual goods. A user would have to buy Facebook credits in order to buy these goods. In the future, it will be expanded to physical goods and other non-virtual deals.
