Goodbye LimeWire
LimeWire, the popular P2P program which was finally shut down on 27th October 2010 was a mine of pirated, illegal and malicious content.
LimeWire, the banned peer-to-peer file sharing application, was a giant in its field of P2P file sharing. It was formally launched in May 2000.However, in its early days, LimeWire was also bundled with spyware. It quickly became one of the most common vector(a host) for computer virus infections on Windows-based machines. At one point, around 30% of files shared on the Gnutella network were infected with malware.
If you visit the limewire site today, you’ll be presented with a Legal notice stated below:
Legal Notice
This is an official notice that LimeWire is under a court-ordered injunction to stop distributing and supporting its file-sharing software. Downloading or sharing copyrighted content without authorization is illegal.
